KNOWING CHARACTERS

(Filtered from the Book of Seven Soldiers of who die on October 1, 1965

sub-chapter of the family of General Sutoyo Siswomiharjo)

He is a revolution heroes figure born in Kebumen, Central Java, he was born on August 28, 1922 and died at the age of 43 years. The same age as General Ahmad Yani, who was both born in 1922, the last position he held was Inspector of Justice of the Indonesian Army / Main Military Prosecutor for the Army. Yes he is Major General TNI Posthumous Sutoyo Siswomiharjo. He died as a result of the G30S / PKI incident that occurred in 1965, at that time he had become a strong candidate for the position of Attorney General but due to the slander of the "General Council" launched at that time, he ended up not being appointed to his position. His name has also been recorded as one of the leaders of Operation Budhi. An operation launched to "eradicate" the corruption that occurred in large companies at that time. But I will not discuss about it, but I will discuss one "learning" that he left for us the younger generation, namely "Knowing Character."

I quote from the book "Seven Soldiers of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) who died on October 1, 1965" in the family section of General Sutoyo Siswomiharjo about the experience of Mrs. Nani Sutoyo (his daughter) when she was appointed chairman of the Cikini College Student Association in the last months of 1964

"Still strong in Nani's memory of Father's words when he was appointed chairman of the Cikini College Student Association in the late months of 1964. At that time my father explained to Nani how to organize and how to lead. Father likened a leader to being appointed, guided. by his friends. Because he is guided, he will be taller, which means he can have far-reaching insight and be able to translate what he can see in the future. "You have to know how strong the lap is. That means you have to look down, you also don't rely only on intelligence, but more importantly is to develop character. There can be smart people, but far more important than just clever people are people with character. "

Implied a valuable lesson about leadership and character "Frequently look down so you know how strong your lap is, also develop your character because smart people can appear, but more important than intelligence is the character that is in you." Yes, our character is an identity that is in us, intelligence is needed in our lives but if we cannot keep up with the character that is in us, it could be that intelligence will lead us to the wrong path that causes an "identity crisis" that will hit. on us

For the younger generation, balance your intelligence with the characters that will become your identity. Also develop insight and recognize what and who you are, that is the capital for you to lead in your future and recognize the footing you are on so that you can lead safely.

That is my short writing, I hope it will be useful for all readers

For Alm. Mr. Sutoyo Siswomiharjo thank you for all the lessons you have left us, the younger generation. Hopefully we can continue your struggle and your friends through the lessons you left behind.

I hope you get the best place there.
