Dr. (H.C) .K.H Abdurrahman Wahid or familiarly called Gus Dur, was born in Jombang, East Java, August 4, 1940, died Jakarta December 30, 2009 At 69 years old. Is the fourth President of the Republic of Indonesia who served from 1999-2001, he replaced President B.J Habibie. After the MPR was elected from the 1999 election results. He was born to K.H Wahid Hasyim and Siti Aminah, his wife is named Sinta Nuriyah and has 4 children from his marriage. He was born with the name Abdurrahman Addakhil, "Addakhil" means "the Conqueror". The word "Addakhil" was not well known and was renamed "Wahid", and later became better known as Gus Dur. "Gus" is a typical pesantren nickname for a kiai child which means "Abang" or "Mas".

The education he received started from SD KRIS before moving to SD Matraman Perwari and then continued in 1954 when he entered the first school. Unfortunately, he did not go up to class until he was sent to Jogjakarta by his mother, in Jogjakarta he studied with K.H Ali Maksum and also studied junior high school there. In 1957 he entered the pesantren in Tegalrejo and completed his education for two years, until 1959 he started his education at the Tambakberas Jombang pesantren, his first job came as a teacher and later became head of the madrasa school.



In 1963, he studied at Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt to study Islamic studies. There he also worked at the Indonesian Embassy to Egypt. His political career began when he joined the Institute for Economic and Social Information and Education Research (LP3ES). An organization consisting of progressive Muslim intellectuals and social democrats. This organization also founded a magazine called Prisma, he had also joined the Hasyim Asy'ari university, his career continued to climb until he succeeded in occupying the chair of the first PBNU and succeeded in reforming NU until in 1999 he succeeded in occupying the fourth Indonesian presidential seat for the 1999 period- 2004 (please correct it if it's wrong) but in 2001 he had to step down from his position. He died in Jakarta on December 30, 2009 at the age of 69
